The Mattatuck Museum, a center of art and history in Waterbury, was established in 1877 as the Mattatuck Historical Society and today collects and exhibits American art and cultural history with a focus on the history of the Naugatuck Valley and the artists of Connecticut.
To keep content fresh and provide the opportunity for repeat patrons to see interesting new exhibits regularly, The Mattatuck increased the number of exhibits it offered to more than 16 per year, each running from six to eight weeks, and wanted a new website that enabled them to more easily manage the promotion of those exhibitions.
Web Solutions built a new website in WordPress, including an exhibition module that is date-driven, so exhibits are automatically posted in the appropriate place on the site—in sections for upcoming, current, and past exhibits—without having to be manually moved as they cycle through.
Another key feature of the new site was the inclusion of the WooCommerce ecommerce engine, which lets the museum conduct all transactions—from purchases at the museum shop to registration fees and tickets for a wide range of programs, classes, and events—within a single shopping cart.
