The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, affectionately known as the Kate, is a non-profit performing arts organization located in a historic building in Old Saybrook. The Kate includes a 285-seat venue that hosts music, theater, opera, dance, comedy, film, and a variety of children’s programming.
The Kate's last website update was in 2016, and it wanted a complete redesign as well as improved integration with its backend system. "This was the Kate’s second website build with Exposure (formerly Web Solutions)," said Brett Elliott, Executive Director. "While they did a great job on our previous website, 7 years had passed, technology had changed, and the Kate had grown. It was time to rethink our site from the ground up instead of continuing to make small changes along the way. "
Exposure did a full update with a new look and feel, custom landing pages for key sections of the site, and improved content. To help visitors browse events, the site has a new filtering tool and a calendar view of events.
"While we knew Exposure and Exposure knew the Kate, they still took the time to really analyze our changing needs and rethink the functionality and navigation of our new site," said Elliott. "This had its challenges, as the Kate is a multifaceted cultural arts center with 300+ performances, a museum dedicated to Katharine Hepburn, and robust education programs all competing for space on our website—particularly the home page. Further, our ticket platform is an additional web-based platform that needed to be seamlessly integrated into our site."
